Stella Brown has been riding for many years under the tutelage of Showtime’s owner, Leigh Anne Romans Warlen. She owns the purebred Andalusian mare, Palida (Lily, who lives at Showtime), with whom she has won Reserve National Champion Purebred Andalusian Country English Pleasure Amateur and Open, and National Champion Andalusian Showmanship in Hand.

Kaitlin Short graduated May 2009 from William Woods University with a Bachelor of Science in Equine Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. While horses have always been her biggest passion, she strives to understand the inner workings of personality and motivation, and feels that her additional background in psychology has made her a stronger and more aware teacher of kids and horses alike. She have ridden horses for over 17 years, and while she mostly rode saddle seat in college, she has also taken classes in and shown western and dressage. Kaitlin started riding when she was 8. She got a Longview Horsemanship Camp form for Christmas in the hopes that it would satisfy her love for ponies; she rode for 6 weeks, fell even more in love, started taking regular lessons, and never looked back!

Kaitlin rode with Bev Cathcard for 8 years before Hidden Valley closed, tried a couple local barns for a few months, and finally settled at Showtime as a junior in high school, where she helped Leigh Anne (Romans) build a very new lesson program. After a couple years "hiatus" from Showtime while she studied hard at school, rode in several shows, and interned for a summer at R and R Stables, she was glad to be back home after graduation!

Though specializing in saddle seat, Kaitlin has conducted several clinics and camps involving riders of all disciplines, including western and hunt seat, and has been teaching young kids the basics of riding her entire teaching career. She shown at several highly acclaimed shows in saddle seat with many top-5 placings, including the American Royal. She competed both with the Show Pleasure horse she owned in high school and received second place in the Mo-Kan 5-Gaited Show Pleasure class and top 5 in the National ASB 5-Gaited Show Pleasure class 18-38. She enjoys all aspects of teaching and training and exposing students to the thrill of horses and riding!

Here are some rules and pointers to keep in mind when preparing for horseback  riding lessons:

1.  Only the lesson participant is allowed in the horse stalls and in the arena at Showtime! Parents and friends must stay either in the office or in the alleyways. No exceptions unless given specific permission by the lesson instructor. Not all the horses at Showtime are used in lessons. We have carefully chosen our lesson horses to make sure they are good “teachers.” Many of the horses at Showtime are privately owned, and some are very high-energy show horses. We also have stallions on the premises. Do not open any stall door or go into a stall without specific permission of your lesson instructor!

2. A safety helmet is required for all lesson participants under 18 years old, and strongly recommended for lesson participants over 18. If you do not have a well-fitting helmet, we can loan one to you on a short term basis, but if you plan to continue lessons, then we ask that you buy one. There are several local resources for helmets: The Family Center in Harrisonville, Tractor Supply in Lee’s Summit or  Fletcher’s J Bar S on 40 Hwy in Blue Springs are only a few of many local resources, or you can order online from Schneiders Saddlery (www.sstack.com ), State Line Tack (www.statelinetack.com ) or Dover Saddlery (www.doversaddlery.com ) There are lots of decorative helmets on the market, but safety is of the utmost importance. Please make sure that the helmet you buy meets ASTM/SEI standards. Helmets must fit well and all retention straps must be securely fastened. When properly fastened, they should not fall forward over the eyes.

3. Please wear long pants. Any well fitted long pant is acceptable. Jeans are OK. Shorts and short pants or capris are not allowed. In winter, please be sure to wear a jacket and gloves appropriate to the weather, as the barn is not heated.

4. Boots boots boots! Sneakers are not allowed. The boot should come up over the ankle, and have a smooth sole with a low heel, so that your foot cannot get caught in the stirrup in an emergency. Boots can be lace-up, zippered, or pull-on style. Lug soles (such as on hiking boots) should not be worn. A wide variety of correct boots can be bought at any of the sources listed in #1 above.

5. Showtime loves kids but we are not a day care center. If dropping your child for a lesson, please pick your him/her up promptly at the end of the lesson, unless you have made other arrangements in advance with your lesson instructor.

6. Showtime T-shirts in youth and adult sizes are available for purchase at $15. each- please see your lesson instructor if you would like to buy one.

7. Last, but definitely not least, if you have ANY questions, concerns, or comments, please contact Leigh Anne Romans who can usually be found around the barn during the days and early evenings, or you can call her at (816) 678-5807, or contact Susan Cox at (816)665-7030. No question, concern, or comment is too trivial to discuss with us. We want to make sure that your experience at Showtime is a positive one.
